Delete your account
Version 1.1 · 25 September 2026
You can delete your kwitto account yourself at any time. This page explains how, and what happens to your data.
How to delete your account
- Open kwitto and sign in
- Go to Profile
- Scroll to the bottom and choose Delete account
- Read the notice and confirm with Delete permanently
Deletion starts immediately after you confirm. There is no waiting period and no undo — the account is gone.
Can't get into the app any more? Write to datenschutz@kwitto.app from the address you signed in with, and we will delete the account for you.
What gets deleted
- Your sign-in account (email address and password, or the linked Google or Apple sign-in)
- Your name, profile picture and payment details (IBAN, PayPal, Revolut)
- Your receipt archive, including uploaded files
- Your personal feed, notifications, drafts and settings
- Your mailbox and any attachments you sent us
- Your licence, plus any invitations and link requests you issued
What stays — and why
kwitto splits expenses between several people. Some of it therefore does not belong to you alone, but to the other members of a group as well.
- Shared expenses and balances stay in the group. Your name is replaced by a neutral placeholder. Deleting the expenses along with your account would make the other members' side of the bill disappear: an open debt towards the group would simply vanish, and everyone else's balance would be wrong. Legal basis: Art. 17(3)(b) and (e) GDPR.
- Your membership in those groups stays on record, also under the placeholder. The balances hang on it; removing it would have the same effect as deleting the expenses.
- Comments and chat messages in shared groups are anonymised, not removed — otherwise the conversation would fall apart for everyone else.
- An anonymous counter records that an account was deleted in a given month. It carries no identifier and no link to you; without it we could not tell how many people leave kwitto again.
- A digest of your email address (a hash from which the address cannot be recovered) remains stored. It records that a trial period has already been started with this address — otherwise the trial period could be repeated at will by deleting and re-creating the account. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Once deletion is done, what remains cannot be traced back to you.
Worth doing first
- Settle open balances. They do not disappear with your account — afterwards they sit in the group under a placeholder.
- Take your data with you. Under *Profile → Data export (GDPR)* you get your data as a file, as long as the account exists. Not afterwards.
If you bought a subscription
A running subscription is not cancelled automatically: it lives with Google Play or the App Store, not with us. Cancel it there, before or after deleting your account — otherwise you keep paying.
